What are the challenges for packagers?

We regularly emphasize the powerful links that exist between food and the environment, particularly through waste and its colossal effects on associated CO2 emissions.

The packaging system is a key lever.

It must of course reduce its own impact as much as possible, be thoughtful in terms of eco-design, communicate precisely the right sorting action... but its scope is much broader.

By improving the protection of your product, by allowing the extension of its DLUO or DLC, it is a tool for reducing its environmental impact.

It is for this reason that it is one of the important criteria of your ECO-SCORE evaluation. SCORE-IT! is completely free; with it, scan or search, then benefit from an immediate overview of how your products are entered in the databases shared by all applications on the market.

ECO-SCORE: a private action, a recent initiative, an effective response

The ECO-SCORE is part of the environmental labeling movement. The score calculation involves two distinct layers: life cycle analysis (LCA) taken from the Agribalyse database from ADEME and a supplement involving a system of five bonuses and penalties: Existence of labeled production systems with bonus, depending on the profits generated. Origin of product ingredients to promote local productions.

Systemic differences related to the country of production : the country's environmental policy (discharge standards, electricity production, biodiversity, etc.).

Packaging penalty determined to reflect the level of “circularity” (recyclability and integration of recycled raw material).

Consideration of endangered species : depletion of fish stocks and massive deforestation linked to oil palm cultivation (linked to the risk of species extinction). The final ECO-SCORE is constructed via a result (out of 100) increased or decreased by the 5 bonus-malus. The resulting score, still out of 100, determines the final ECO-SCORE class.

A technological and “green” application

SCORE IT! is a Web App, that is to say an application that can be used via a secure URL (pwa.scoreit-app.com) or conventionally installed on a smartphone. Thanks to the new PWA technology, the user experience is strictly the same in both cases, and avoids the obligatory passage through the App Stores.

SCORE IT! integrates the most advanced web technologies, including an interface coded with AngularJS and a JavaScript Framework developed by Google

In a context where digital represents nearly 4% of greenhouse gas emissions, we designed the application to be as “green” as possible: limiting server access, modulating the power and memory assigned according to the tasks requested, and above all: no data replication, so no specific Cloud required.

Score-it: an independent and scalable application

Finally, the app is strictly independent. We don't seek to promote any particular score or group. On the contrary, our goal is to monitor the evolution of recommendations in order to constantly adapt. Today, NUTRI-SCORE and ECO-SCORE, tomorrow, others if necessary.
